Caymans Cardboard Boat Regatta

An event that started two years ago has become one of the most popular of the National Festival and commands an audience of approximately 3,000 viewers.

Just imagine – Boats made completely of cardboard, duct tape and glue, racing around Hog Sty Bay (downtown harbor cove). How do they move? Well, with lots of duct tape and propelled by paddles, oars, or sails, you name it. Some do float but in this race it can only be described as merry confusion. Okay some of the boats do sink, but that only adds to the merriment.

Popular in recent years around the world, this event came to Pirates Week for the first time in 2007 as a fund-raiser for playground equipment, and was an instant favorite with the crowds. This year, with an expanded format and renewed sponsorship from organizers and brainchild of the event, Build Cayman Ltd. and co-sponsor local brewery Caybrew, funds made from this event will go towards building playground equipment for the Lighthouse School.

Starting at 4pm on the final Saturday 21 November, this is absolutely one event that you can’t miss.
