Pirates Week Festival

[Pirate wenches] Good Advice

Bookings

Given the growing popularity of the Festival, it's advisable to make reservations early, particularly for that first downtown weekend with the mock "pirate invasion", the parade, the two free street dances, the song contest, and the big fireworks show. Hotel rooms are in short supply during the run of the Festival, as are rented cars.

Cost

Many of the major events are free, such as the Fireworks Show, the Pirate Landing, the Float Parade, the 3 harbour-side Street Dances, the Song Contest, the Teen Dance, the Kids' Fun Day, and the Dominoes Tournament. District Day functions are free during the day and $7 at night. For most sports events, participation costs around $15.

Pirate Paraphernalia

This Pirates Week don't be caught walking around with out a costume. Whatever you need to dress up! Complete costumes, Hats, Boot Tops,Hooks, Swords, Tattoos, Bangles & Beads, we have them. So come and check us out, you'll find no pirate prices here!

The shop is located on Shedden Road, behind the Museum and is open Monday - Friday, 9:00am - 5:00pm Call 949-5078 for more information.

Getting Around

The downtown activities, on the first weekend and the last, are within 5-10 minutes' driving from most hotels in the Seven Mile Beach area, while the Heritage Days, out of town, are about a 30-minute drive. Taxi service to any evening function should be arranged in advance as they can be difficult to get at night. Some bus service is also available; ask at your hotel or condo reception, or call the Pirates Week Office.

Eats

All of the evening functions feature local dishes, well prepared, and served in convenient take-away containers. The prices are reasonable ($10), and the helpings are generous. The food booths are in a separate area away from the music site.

Services

Several bar facilities (fruit juices included) are available at the street dances, and drinks are reasonably priced. Signs indicate the location of portable toilets at the various sites. If you're not sure about something, ask the folks in the yellow shirts marked "Official" - they will be happy to help.

And - bring lots of film, casual clothes and comfortable footwear.
